Q: My 2-year-old has started spitting up and seems really uncomfortable after eating. He never had any reflux issues as an infant, so this is totally new and I'm really worried. Is it normal for reflux to just appear out of nowhere in a toddler? I feel so lost and just want to help him feel better. 😥

A: Hey, so sorry you're going through this - it's really stressful!

It's definitely possible for reflux to start in the toddler years, even if he never had it as a baby. Sometimes the muscle (lower esophageal sphincter) that keeps food down isn't fully mature or can act up. Things like new foods being introduced, a possible food sensitivity or allergy you weren't aware of, a recent illness, or even constipation could be triggers. There are so many reasons causing it. You know, the best way is to consult your pediatrician!
