Question: My child keeps coughing, and the frequency has gotten worse lately. I don't think it has developed into pneumonia, but I am still worried. Would it be helpful to turn on a humidifier while they sleep?

Answer: It is completely understandable to be concerned when a child's cough worsens. Because a precise assessment depends on factors like the child's exact age and how long the cough has persisted, it is best to have your child evaluated by a pediatrician in person.
In the meantime, using a humidifier can indeed be helpful. Here is how to use it safely and effectively:
• Maintain the indoor humidity between 40% and 60%.
• Use clean water and clean the humidifier daily to prevent mold and bacteria.
• Place the humidifier at least 1 meter away from your child.
Other home care methods to help relieve a cough include:
Offering warm water frequently (for children 1 year and older).
Giving 1 teaspoon of honey (ONLY for children over 12 months of age, as honey can be dangerous for infants).
Slightly elevating your child's upper body while they sleep.
Letting them breathe in warm, moist air in the bathroom after a warm shower or bath.
🚨 Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of the following warning signs:
• Wheezing or chest retractions (the skin pulling in around the ribs/chest when breathing)
• A blue or pale tint on the lips or face
• High fever accompanied by a worsening cough
• A cough that lasts for more than 2 weeks
Please consult your pediatrician to get an accurate diagnosis and ensure your child receives the appropriate care.
