Question:

I would like to ask about the dosage of Setopen 325. My child weighs 20kg, and we were prescribed 0.67 packets of Setopen 325 in powder form. Is this the minimum dosage?

Answer:

For a 20kg child, 0.67 packets of Setopen 325 (Acetaminophen) falls within the lower to middle range of the appropriate dosage.

Basis for the Calculation:

  • 1 packet of Setopen 325 = 325mg of acetaminophen

  • 0.67 packets = approximately 218mg

  • Recommended dosage for acetaminophen: 10–15 mg/kg per dose. For a 20kg child, this means 200–300mg per dose.

  • The prescribed amount of 218mg is about 11 mg/kg, which sits comfortably within the safe and effective range.

How to Administer:

  • Give the medication at 4 to 6-hour intervals, and only when the child is uncomfortable or has a fever.

  • It can be given up to a maximum of 5 times a day.

  • You can mix the powder with a little water, or give it directly followed by a drink of water.

Additional Considerations:

  • If the child's symptoms are relatively mild, this current dosage is perfectly sufficient.

  • If you feel the medication is not reducing the fever effectively, do not increase the dose on your own. Instead, consult your prescribing doctor to ask if the dosage can be safely adjusted.

  • Do not alternate or cross-mix with other fever reducers (such as Ibuprofen) without explicit instructions from your doctor.

To summarize the key point: 0.67 of a packet is not the absolute minimum, but rather a safe, appropriate dose within the standard range. If the fever persists or the medication seems ineffective, please consult your pediatrician for further evaluation and potential adjustment.
