Question:
My child just threw up less than 10 minutes after taking their fever reducer. Is it okay to give them another dose right away?
Answer:
If they vomited within 10 minutes, you can administer it again.
[Guide for Re-administering Medication]
• Vomiting within 10 minutes → Can re-administer the same dose
• Between 10-30 minutes → Administer only half the dose
• After 30 minutes → Do not re-administer (the medication has already been absorbed)
[Tips to Prevent Vomiting]
• Hold the child upright while giving the medication
• Give it slowly in small amounts (do not give the whole dose all at once)
• Cold medication is less likely to cause vomiting
• Giving it before meals might be better than after meals
⚠️ If vomiting continues:
• Consider using a suppository fever reducer
• Check for signs of dehydration (dry lips, decreased urine output)
• See a doctor if vomiting occurs repeatedly
Give the same dose again now, and try feeding it slowly, a little bit at a time.
