Question:

My child complained that their thigh hurts as if the muscles are knotted. Afterward, they started feeling a bit chilly, and their body felt warm to the touch. I checked their temperature, and it is 37.4°C. What could be the reason for this?

Answer:

I see that your child is experiencing thigh pain along with a mild fever. You must be very worried.

There are a few possible reasons why these symptoms might appear:

【Most Common Causes】

• Early symptoms of a cold - Muscle pain and a mild fever often appear together.

• Growing pains + Mild infection - This happens when both conditions coincide by chance.

• Recent increase in physical activity - Muscle fatigue can occur after exercise or active play.

• Viral myositis - Cold viruses can induce muscle pain.

【What You Can Do Now】

1. Ensure adequate hydration - Give your child warm water or tea.

2. Comfortable rest - Slightly elevate their legs while they rest.

3. Light massage - Gently rub the affected thigh area.

4. Monitor body temperature - Check the fever every 4 hours.

⚠️ When to Visit the Hospital:

→ If the fever rises above 38.5°C

→ If the leg pain worsens, making it difficult for the child to walk

→ If there is any swelling or redness on the leg

→ If symptoms are accompanied by vomiting or a headache

In most cases, these symptoms will improve within 1 to 2 days. However, if your child continues to feel uncomfortable, it is highly recommended to visit a pediatrician for a proper medical examination.
