Question: My two-month-old daughter was born with a birthmark on her scalp that I'm curious about. It's an oval patch, about 2 cm, and is a tan color slightly darker than her surrounding skin. The texture feels a little different, but it has hair growing from it. There is also a small, dark brown dot in the center. Our pediatrician wasn't concerned but was unsure of the exact type of birthmark. Should I ask for a referral to a dermatologist?

Answer: It looks like a very mild nevus, which is generally harmless. However, I am not a dermatologist so I am not very sure. Getting a referral to a dermatologist is always a good idea so they can see and feel it in person.
