Q: SOS! My sweet 10-month-old has suddenly turned into a little vampire! 🧛‍♀️ She'll bite me at random times, whether we're playing or nursing. My reflex is to pull her away and sometimes I can't help but yelp 'Ouch!'. I'm worried this might be scaring her, but I also feel like she's too little to get what 'no' means. Does anyone have tips for this?

A: It's super common for babies this age to explore with their mouths, and sometimes that means a little nibble. Since she's still very young, I think she's likely not doing it to be naughty.

When she bites, your instinct to remove her and react is understandable. A firm but calm "no bite" as you remove her can start to help her understand. You can also try offering her a teether or a toy to chew on instead. Sometimes they just need something to mouth!
