Q: Anyone else's baby get knocked out by bananas? 😴
I'm wondering if any other parents have seen this with their little one. Our daughter is 4 months old, and our pediatrician gave us the green light to introduce solids. He suggested starting with single-ingredient purees like fruits, veggies, or some rice cereal.
We tried rice cereal first, but she wasn't a fan and it seemed to upset her tummy a bit. So we moved on to bananas, and she absolutely adores them! But... here's the weird part. They knock her out completely! It's like a baby food coma! 😴 For the whole day after she has bananas, she just sleeps and sleeps. She only really wakes up for a bottle or if she loses her paci.
This has happened three days in a row. We skipped them yesterday, and she was way more awake and active. Is this a normal reaction? Should I be concerned and stop giving them to her? Or maybe just not as often? I feel so bad because she clearly loves the taste! I did a quick Google search and saw that bananas can have relaxing properties, but I didn't think it would be this dramatic.
A: Bananas do have magnesium and tryptophan, which can promote relaxation and sleepiness. Maybe it's just hitting her little system harder since she's new to solids?
Honestly, kinda jealous you found a natural sleep button though! XD
On a serious note, you could try offering them less often or maybe a smaller portion to see if that helps tone it down. Also, it's definitely worth mentioning to your pediatrician too, just to be sure everything's okay! Good luck!
